Cairns
Cairns is on
the same latitude as Fiji, Tahiti and Acapulco.
Year round warm days and balmy evenings are all
part of the tropical experience. There is no
better climate to enjoy the two wonders of the
natural world - the world heritage listed Great
Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest.
Cairns is known for its easy access to the Great
Barrier Reef, which lies just offshore. The
Great Barrier Reef stretches right along the
Queensland coast and is recognised as one of the
world's best diving and snorkeling destinations.
In the north the warm tropical waters enhance
the colours of the coral and variety of marine
life. With winter water temperatures dropping to
a balmy 25 degrees celsius (77F), it's the
perfect way to spend a winter's day. Summer
water temperatures rise to around 28C. It is
safe to swim year-round in the tropics; however
during the warmer months from November to May,
additional precautions may be necessary due to
the presence of marine stingers against the
coast.
