Dive Insurance

Planning a
diving holiday? Dive Queensland strongly
recommends that all divers take out Medical
Emergency Evacuation protection as provided by
the Divers Alert Network (DAN) Asia-Pacific. By
doing so you can focus on enjoying your diving
knowing that in the event of an emergency DAN
will be there to assist you.
For scuba divers worldwide DAN means safety,
health and peace of mind. Committed to improving
dive safety for recreational divers, DAN is Your
Buddy in Dive Safety.
Dive Queensland supports and recommends DAN
Asia-Pacific to all recreational divers as this
not-for-profit organisation strives to improve
the safety of diving via their various pursuits,
including:
- Providing
Worldwide Emergency Evacuation Coverage (for
diving and non-diving related accidents) and
an affordable dive injury treatment
insurance service for Members.
- Funding
and/or manning 24-hour diving emergency
hotlines throughout the region.
- Offering
diving medical education, accident
management training, and undertaking data
collection and research.
DAN
Asia-Pacific is part of the international
network of DAN diver safety associations with
worldwide membership exceeding 200,000. DAN's
mission is to be the most recognized and trusted
organisation worldwide in the fields of diver
safety and emergency services, health, research
and education of its members, instructors,
supporters and the recreational diving community
at large.
Undersea Explorer and Mike Ball Dive
Expeditions, members of Dive Queensland, are
Sponsors of DAN Asia-Pacific and retail a 30-Day
Travel Assist Emergency Evacuation product to
divers for only AUD$16.00 per person.
In the event of an accident or illness, whether
diving-related or not, you will be evacuated to
the nearest appropriate medical facility. This
service is valid worldwide (refer to the DAN
website for excluded countries) for a period of
30-days from the commencement date of your
policy, which must be purchased at least
12-hours prior to any diving activities.
Beyond this short-term coverage DAN Asia-Pacific
offers an annual Membership for
residents/Nationals of the Asia-Pacific region
(excluding Japan). And, in addition to Medical
Emergency Evacuation Members receive:
- A welcome
pack comprising a Membership Card, first aid
guide/log book, and sticker comprising all
the emergency hotline numbers in the region;
- An annual
subscription to Alert Diver, the regions
premier magazine on dive health and safety
issues;
- Product
discounts;
-
Invitations to special events and seminars;
as well as
- Exclusive
access to Member Only programs, such as
Bonus+ (providing Members with special
offers from businesses throughout the entire
Asia-Pacific region) and the Medical
Emergency Database (providing a place for
Members to store their personal medical
information, which can enable a treating
doctor to get information about a patient in
the event that the patient (or others at
hand) is unable to provide this. This can
allow the treating doctor/s to have a better
understanding of the patient under medical
care.
In addition,
Members can also elect to take out one of the
DAN Asia-Pacific's Optional Dive Injury
Treatment Plans that provide medical treatment
coverage following an Emergency Evacuation. With
three levels of insurance, there is a policy to
meet your diving needs.
For divers who reside outside the Asia-Pacific
they are required to visit one of the DAN
facilities listed below depending on the region
the diver resides in, to investigate annual
membership and insurance coverage.

Whilst Undersea Explorer does not currently make
such protection compulsory, we feel it is
worthwhile making all passengers that are
joining the liveaboard trips aware of their
options. Mike Ball Dive Expeditions does require
such protection. The peace of mind that comes
from being prepared for the unexpected is worth
a great deal more than the cost involved for an
Annual Membership or a 30-Day Travel Assist
Plan.
Relevant forms can be derived from both Undersea
Explorer and Mike Ball Diving Expeditions. We
suggest that these forms are read thoroughly,
especially, "Some Exclusions & General
Provisions of Travel Assist".
