Port Douglas is one of the very best holiday
destinations in Australia. Located just 1 hour
drive along the Coast from Cairns in Tropical
North Queensland, Port Douglas is safe, clean,
friendly & ideally located to visit the Great
Barrier Reef, The Tropical Rainforest and the
Australian Outback. At Cape Tribulation, just
north of Port Douglas the rainforest and the
reef collide. The town prides itself on
balancing the often conflicting goals of tourism
development and environmental sensitivity - a
reason visitors come back again and again, or
refuse to leave!
In the north the warm tropical waters enhance
the colours of the coral and variety of marine
life. With winter water temperatures dropping to
a balmy 25 degrees celsius (77F), it's the
perfect way to spend a winter's day. Summer
water temperatures rise to around 28C. It is
safe to swim year-round in the tropics; however
during the warmer months from November to May,
additional precautions may be necessary due to
the presence of marine stingers.

The sea-side peninsula port is snuggled between
forest clad mountains and the warm tropical
waters of the glorious Coral Sea which lap a
palm-lined Four Mile Beach.
Port Douglas has become the hub of the region's
tourist industry with its huge array of shopping
experiences (from five-star boutiques to the
effervescent weekly Cotters Markets),
first-class restaurants and eateries, laid back
lifestyle and historic sites.
It offers something for every traveler, with
accommodation ranging from five-star resorts to
budget backpacker accommodation, and makes no
distinction between the two groups who can find
themselves commending the menus over tables at
the street-side cafes on Macrossan Street.
